December 2020: Update AnenA Primary School

Vandaag ontvingen we een mail uit Ethiopië. Het jaar 2020 was een grote uitdaging voor Ethiopië, door Covid-19 en doordat het in het noorden erg onrustig is aan de grens.

WCAT schrijft:

“There are instabilities in the North (Tigray region) and South West of Ethiopia (Benishangul Gumuz region). In Tigray, the government has managed the military law enforcement operation, humanitarian supports started, infrastructures being rehabilitated and interim administration has started its work. The search for potential criminals of the Military Junta has continued. In the South West, another law enforcement operation started on 25 November 2020. Border conflicts resolution with Sudan is under process. The people trust that all the problems are not beyond the capacity of the government and will be solved and managed!”

We had little chances for field visits due to COVID-19 and the recent military law enforcement in the North happening at the beginning of November 2020. Our communication to the field was only with telephone. Anena School is functioning well despite the closure of all schools from 16 March to Mid-October 2020(for more than 7 months) due to COVID-19. After 18 October 2020, schools re-opened and started operating and so is Anena.”
